Wood fences remain one of the most popular choices for homeowners because they offer beauty, privacy, and durability. At The Fence Company, we specialize in several styles of wood fencing to fit neighborhoods, acreages, and everything in between.
The Most Common Subdivision Wood Fences
In most subdivisions, you’ll see these classic styles:
Privacy Fences – Solid panels that give maximum seclusion and security.
Shadowbox Fences – Alternating pickets on each side of the rail allow airflow while still maintaining privacy.
Picture-Framed Fences – A polished look with trim framing the panels, adding style and structure.
Board-on-Board Fences – Overlapping pickets create a premium privacy fence with no gaps, even as the wood ages.
All of these styles can be upgraded with a cap and trim finish, which adds a decorative top rail and vertical trim pieces for a more refined, custom look.
Built to Last: Steel Posts Covered in Wood
While some contractors still use wooden posts, we use
steel posts for these fences. Steel posts are much stronger, don’t rot like wood, and significantly extend the life of your fence. To keep the warm, natural look, we cover the steel with wood, giving you the best of both worlds — strength and beauty.
Cedar vs. Pine: Choosing the Right Wood
We always recommend cedar for its natural durability, resistance to rot, and long-lasting beauty. However, we understand that sometimes budgets are tight. If cost is the main factor, we can install pine instead. Pine is more affordable but may require additional maintenance over the years compared to cedar.
Rail and Crossbuck Fences
For larger properties and open areas, rail fencing is a timeless choice:
3-Rail and 4-Rail Wood Fences – A traditional ranch-style look that defines property lines while keeping the landscape open.
4-Rail and 5-Rail Crossbuck Fences – Decorative and functional, the crossbuck design adds a touch of elegance while maintaining strength.
On rail fences, we typically use 4x4 pressure-treated pine posts with pressure-treated pine rails to ensure stability and longevity.
Final Word
Whether you’re looking for maximum privacy in a subdivision or a classic rail fence for a larger property, we have the expertise to build a fence that fits your style, budget, and long-term needs. From cedar privacy fences with cap and trim to crossbuck ranch fences, every project we build is designed to last and look great for years to come.
